If you loved La Maison aux Esprits, try Les Misérables
Un pont entre un film que tu as déjà vu et un que peu de gens ont croisé. Voici ce qu'ils partagent, et ce que le second fait que le premier ne fait pas.
Ce qu'ils partagent
Both films are directed by Bille August, and they both carry the bittersweet, tender mood tags, and they sit in Drama / Romance territory. If that's the register that drew you to La Maison aux Esprits, the second film will land in a comparable space — through a different lens.

What Les Misérables is
Here's a film that really wants you to know it's adapted from Victor Hugo. Jean Valjean, having served hard time for stealing bread, is hounded for decades by the unyielding Javert. Eventually Valjean gets mixed up in some student uprisings. It's a solid adaptation, provided you've never read the book.
