The Missing

July dusk, southeastern Arizona. A straw hat hangs crooked on a corral post. Inside the ranch house, a phone rings once before Lily steps outside, vanishing into the red dust. Maggie Gilkeson phones the sheriff, then drives straight through the borderlands toward the Apache camp where Lily is already being measured for a new dress.
