If you loved The Gauntlet, try Play Misty for Me
A bridge between a film you've already seen and one most people haven't. Here's what they share, and what the second one does that the first one doesn't.
What they share
Both films are directed by Clint Eastwood, and they sit in Drama / Thriller territory. If that's the register that drew you to The Gauntlet, the second film will land in a comparable space — through a different lens.
What Play Misty for Me is
A Monterey night, warm salt air thick with cigarette smoke and the hiss of vinyl. Dave Garver’s smooth jazz closing set segues into a familiar request—Misty—echoing from a caller with a voice like honeyed steel. When she appears at his door, a smile wrapped in danger, the record spins backward through the evening’s good intentions. A second voice cracks the static, stonier, warning him off. The needle lifts but the song won’t end.
