If you loved The First Star, try He Even Has Your Eyes
A bridge between a film you've already seen and one most people haven't. Here's what they share, and what the second one does that the first one doesn't.
What they share
Both films are directed by Lucien Jean-Baptiste, and they sit in Comedy territory. If that's the register that drew you to The First Star, the second film will land in a comparable space — through a different lens.
What He Even Has Your Eyes is
A middle-class Black couple steps into parenthood via a shockingly white infant. Their delicate adjustment to a toddler who seems borrowed from a Scandinavian catalog gets hijacked by relatives, social workers, and a culture that can’t decide where the joke ends. A plea to be seen as parents is drowned out by the joke they never signed up for.
