If you loved The Champ, try The Taming of the Shrew

A bridge between a film you've already seen and one most people haven't. Here's what they share, and what the second one does that the first one doesn't.

What they share

Both films are directed by Franco Zeffirelli. If that's the register that drew you to The Champ, the second film will land in a comparable space — through a different lens.

What The Taming of the Shrew is

Shakespeare's battle of the sexes gets a lavish period makeover with all the subtlety of a duel in embroidered doublets. Petruchio rides into Padua aiming to marry rich, and settles on the famously unwinnable Katherina, while her sister Bianca attracts suitors who’d rather do anything than face a scornful woman. The film believes fierce women need breaking, which it serves with a wink and a Renaissance wardrobe.
