If you loved Lola, try Betty Blue
A bridge between a film you've already seen and one most people haven't. Here's what they share, and what the second one does that the first one doesn't.
What they share
Theysit in Drama / Romance territory. If that's the register that drew you to Lola, the second film will land in a comparable space — through a different lens.
What Betty Blue is
Here's a film that probably seemed more daring in 1986. Zorg works at a beachside bungalow, where he meets the volatile Betty, and their intense relationship quickly spirals into obsession and violence. It's a fairly unsubtle depiction of mental illness, now that we think about it.
