If you loved Ishtar, try Mikey and Nicky

A bridge between a film you've already seen and one most people haven't. Here's what they share, and what the second one does that the first one doesn't.

What they share

Both films are directed by Elaine May. If that's the register that drew you to Ishtar, the second film will land in a comparable space — through a different lens.

What Mikey and Nicky is

You're a small-time gangster with a bleeding ulcer, sweating through a motel sheet, certain the boss has put a price on your head. You call the only guy you trust, your oldest friend, to talk through the dark. He shows up with jokes and bad timing, pretending everything's fine. The city hums with payphones and parked cars. It’s 1976 and nothing feels safe, not even loyalty.
