If you loved Hydra, try Bad City
A bridge between a film you've already seen and one most people haven't. Here's what they share, and what the second one does that the first one doesn't.
What they share
Both films are directed by Kensuke Sonomura, and they sit in Action / Crime territory. If that's the register that drew you to Hydra, the second film will land in a comparable space — through a different lens.
What Bad City is
You’re the disgraced ex-captain in a city drowning in debt and gunfire when the city’s new mayor starts calling in favors from every yakuza clan. A cell door creaks open and the paperwork feels like a death sentence. The camera pushes through steam and neon, catching the mayor’s lawyer lighting a cigarette in a backroom. The rain never stops here except once—just long enough for a knife to sink in.
