If you loved Hero, try GTO: The Movie

A bridge between a film you've already seen and one most people haven't. Here's what they share, and what the second one does that the first one doesn't.

What they share

Both films are directed by Masayuki Suzuki, and they sit in Comedy / Drama territory. If that's the register that drew you to Hero, the second film will land in a comparable space — through a different lens.

What GTO: The Movie is

Here's a film that knows its audience. Onizuka takes a temporary teaching position in Hokkaido, where he immediately runs afoul of some local bullies. It is probably unfair to call this a cynical cash-in, even if that's precisely what it is.
