If you loved Record of a Tenement Gentleman, try Sommerblüten
Eine Brücke zwischen einem Film, den du schon gesehen hast, und einem, den kaum jemand kennt. Das teilen sie, und was der zweite macht, was der erste nicht macht.
Was sie teilen
Both films are directed by Yasujirō Ozu, and they both carry the bittersweet, foreign gem, tender mood tags, and they sit in Comedy / Drama territory. If that's the register that drew you to Record of a Tenement Gentleman, the second film will land in a comparable space — through a different lens.

What Sommerblüten is
Ozu takes on the eternal story of a dad versus his daughter. A businessman's progressive notions get a workout when his headstrong child rejects an arranged marriage. Dad digs in, but everyone else conspires against him. It's a gentle film about stubbornness.
