If you loved The Wanderers, try Dora-heita

A bridge between a film you've already seen and one most people haven't. Here's what they share, and what the second one does that the first one doesn't.

What they share

Both films are directed by Kon Ichikawa, and they sit in Comedy territory. If that's the register that drew you to The Wanderers, the second film will land in a comparable space — through a different lens.

What Dora-heita is

Kon Ichikawa gives us a town so corrupt it makes Dodge City look like Mayberry. A magistrate arrives in Horisoto and proceeds to clean up the place, mostly by being underestimated. It's a comedy, of sorts, though perhaps more of a history lesson.
