If you loved Himiko, try Double Suicide

A bridge between a film you've already seen and one most people haven't. Here's what they share, and what the second one does that the first one doesn't.

What they share

Both films are directed by Masahiro Shinoda, and they sit in Drama territory. If that's the register that drew you to Himiko, the second film will land in a comparable space — through a different lens.

What Double Suicide is

Shinoda here seems to be testing how far you can push a love story using stagehands in full view. Instead of behaving himself, a married paper merchant falls for a courtesan. This leads to financial and familial problems, which you might expect.
