If you loved Crying Freeman 2: Shades of Death, Part 1, try Mazinger Z vs The Great Dark General

A bridge between a film you've already seen and one most people haven't. Here's what they share, and what the second one does that the first one doesn't.

What they share

Both films are directed by Nobutaka Nishizawa, and they both carry the neon soaked mood tag, and they sit in Action / Animation territory. If that's the register that drew you to Crying Freeman 2: Shades of Death, Part 1, the second film will land in a comparable space — through a different lens.

What Mazinger Z vs The Great Dark General is

You climb out of war gear and into swim trunks when a hooded stranger in a Tokyo ruins square hands you a photo of living steel whales. Before you can read the warning the ocean bulges open and a school of new kaiju storms across continents. The Ministry sounds alarms but Mazinger Z’s cockpit hatch is already groaning shut. At 16 frames per second the tide rises and the hero’s silhouette stiffens.
